Availibility of Blackboard
Starting Sunday 15th of July until Thursday 19th of July Blackboard will be unavailable due to the upgrade of Blackboard and changes in the infrastructures. During this unavailability there will be een temporary system available for our users to download content and view there grades. The Volg+-grades will be updated every night.

Why does it take so long? Can't you put up a shadow site at new.blackboard.tudelft.nl, build the new version there and then redirect the subdomains?
Blackboard downtimes are always surprising. There has to be a way to develop in the background and then deploy in seconds (version control system?).
Another question: is the usability improved in the new version?

blackboard is a complete hosting environment with 14 servers.
In this Blackboard update we have to do a lot of things and because of the large amount of data (3T
this takes time.
Things we do during this upgrade:
- completely reinstalla database server (Solaris 10) en database software (Oracle 10g).
- do a complete export and import of the database because of characterset conversion (1 byte to multi-byte)
- do a Blackboard update from version 6.3 to 7.1, from 7.1 to 7.2 and from 7.2 to 7.2.383
- apply all the customizations we have made.
Because this takes so lang, we will set-up a temporary system, so students can download files and view their grades.

You'd think they would make it so that you can go from 6.3 to 7.2.383 at once
Anyway, what I'd like to know is, with the new version, if you click on an announcement, do you get the course-announcements wíth or without the menubar on the left?

There are no changes in regards to the announcements.
